Creative Writing Workshop Facilitator / Festival Producer

WRITE HERE WRITE NOW was new young writers festival ran by Create Paisley and PACE Youth Theatre as part of Year of the Young People 2018. The festival was made up of 2 key parts: A Festival Fun Day and an evening showcase of new writing.

The Festival gave the opportunity to explore reading and writing through taster workshops, activities and stalls, as well finding out about other opportunities for young writers.

The festival was an opportunity to explore all forms of writing from songwriting, coding and creative writing to journalism and much more.

The programme included: Poetry Picnic from Poetry Takeaway, BBC Journalism Workshop, coding with YMCA, Paisley Comicon, Oak Tree Arts, Renfrewshire Council, Abbey Books, Invisible Ink Writing, Flash Fiction, Calligraphy Writing.

The Showcase evening celebrated new writing by young people from the ‘Write Here Write Now’ programme. It was an event featuring spoken word poetry, song writing, monologues and excerpts from new plays. The theme the writers have been working with is ‘What it means to be a young person in 2018’. I led in ‘creative writing’ and ‘songwriting’ where young people developed brand new work inspired by this theme.

We worked with a range of professionals - PACE Theatre Company, Create, In Motion Theatre Company as well as having masterclass and development sessions with writers Alan Bissett, Douglas Maxwell, Poetry Takeaway and Poet Jenni Lindsay.
